Fromm was established in 1992 by Swiss winemakers Georg Fromm and Hätsch Kalberer, and was one of the first producers in the region to focus on single vineyard expressions and organic viticulture. All Fromm vineyards are now certified organic under BioGro NZ. Most parcels are farmed without irrigation, and the densely planted vines are cropped low to ensure concentration and intensity.
The Pinot Naturel was first released in 2017 and uses carbonic maceration and higher acid fruit selections to produce a wine that is fresh and vibrant. It is made to be enjoyed young, with no fining or filtering, and only a minimal addition of sulphur before bottling.
Bright ruby, the nose is lifted and pure with red cherry and plum, a floral lift and a hint of spice. The palate is juicy and light-footed with bright acidity, fine tannins and a clean, fruit-driven finish.
Best opened young and served lighty chilled. Grilled salmon, charcuterie, Vietnamese roast duck salads, maybe or a simple mushroom dish with lots of fresh herbs - think of the wine as something to balance all those velvety textures.
Drink young.
