This is bright and pulpy, though with the dark-fruited spirit of the variety. Black cherry, brambly berries, violet florals, licorice powder, tar, cola and sarsaparilla – a Dr Pepper vibe. It’s upfront and engagingly drinkable, an easy equation for many, but the thoughtfulness in tannic scaffolding, lack of overt confection and moreish, snappy balance is impressive.

Gemtree Luna Temprana Tempranillo Organic from McLaren Vale is a vibrant, early-picked red made for pure, juicy drinking pleasure. Crafted from certified organic and biodynamic fruit, it’s a fresh and lively expression of Tempranillo that’s all about flavour, energy, and minimal intervention. 

“Temprana” means early in Spanish, and that’s exactly how the fruit is handled—picked early in the season to lock in natural acidity and bright red fruit character. It’s a nod to both Gemtree’s lunar calendar-inspired vineyard practices and their commitment to wines that are vibrant, pure, and sustainably made.

Winemaker Mike Brown keeps it simple: the wine is fermented in stainless steel with no oak, no fining, and a gentle touch throughout. The result is a super drinkable, low-intervention red that’s designed to be enjoyed young and even slightly chilled.

In the glass, expect bright aromas of cherry, raspberry, and red plum, with a hint of spice and soft herbs. The palate is juicy and supple with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a smooth, clean finish. It’s approachable and fun, but still thoughtfully made—perfect for pizza night, grilled veggies, or spicy tapas.
