2024 Giaconda Estate Pinot Noir, Beechworth

The latest release of the Pinot Noir from Giaconda’s estate vineyard in Beechworth. Very little remains of our allocation, and this is what owner and winemaker Rick Kinzbrunner himself has written about the wine:

“The Dutch wine master, Hubrecht Duijker would understand and laud. Red berry fruits laced with dewy rose petals, a splash of negroni and a zephyr of charcuterie oak char in the background. Round and supple with a gentle stream of tannins underpinning the fruit. It's like 1995 pinot meets mature 89. Without much need for debate, this is the most complete and authentic pinot for quite some time.”

About this producer

The now iconic Giaconda estate in Beechworth was established by Rick Kinzbrunner. Planting commenced in 1982, with the parcels today amounting to four hectares, providing a modest annual production of approximately 2,500 dozen bottles.

Rick’s son Nathan joined the family business from the 20074 vintage as an assistant winemaker and general business manager. He also owns and manages a separate one-hectare vineyard of Nebbiolo at Red Hill, close to the town of Beechworth itself, and the wine from this fruit bottled under the Giaconda label.

The vineyards are certified organic, with vines standing at 400+ metre altitude in decomposed gravel soils over clay subsoils, with varied exposures to sun. The growing season tends to be dry, with large diurnal variations in temperature.
