Named in honour of the Rosso family's matriarch, Donna Margherita celebrates both tradition and the vibrant character of Barbera, one of Piedmont's most cherished grape varieties. While Giovanni Rosso is internationally renowned for its Barolo, the estate applies the same meticulous vineyard philosophy to every wine it produces. The result is a Barbera that captures the freshness, generosity and authenticity of the Langhe while remaining unmistakably elegant.
The vineyards are planted on limestone rich hills surrounding Serralunga d'Alba, where warm days and cool nights encourage slow ripening and excellent flavour development. The 2024 vintage produced beautifully balanced fruit, preserving Barbera's naturally bright acidity while delivering impressive concentration. Careful maturation enhances texture and complexity without overshadowing the variety's vibrant fruit profile.
Deep ruby with youthful purple highlights, the bouquet bursts with aromas of black cherry, ripe plum and blackberry, complemented by notes of violet, sweet spice and a touch of vanilla. As the wine opens, hints of cocoa, dried herbs and subtle balsamic nuances add further complexity. The palate is juicy and energetic, delivering generous dark berry flavours supported by silky tannins and Barbera's hallmark freshness. Rich without feeling heavy, it finishes long and lively with lingering notes of black fruits, spice and a gentle savoury edge.
A wonderful partner for pappardelle with slow cooked beef ragù, wood fired pizza, grilled pork cutlets, roasted eggplant with parmesan or mature Pecorino. Delicious from release, it also has the balance to reward several years in the cellar.
