The charming 2024 Pinot Noir Avance, largely made with central Tasmanian fruit, is fragrant, pretty and distinctly savoury, opening with a wild mix of dark cherry, undergrowth and spice aromas with a hint of dried meats. Excellent weight and depth of flavour impress in a compact and well-constructed package, with significant yet balanced tannins well set to see this wine age very well. Drink to 2040.

93 points Angus Hughson for Vinous, July 2026

Deep, dark red with a tint of purple in the rim; there are undergrowth and eucalyptic aromas, a peppery stemmy overtone, a hint of Campari herbiness, and the palate is full-bodied and ample, loaded with tannin and a little astringency. A big and somewhat dry-red-ish wine. Some bottle-age would bring more to it. Drink to 2036.

90 points Huon Hooke for The Real Review, December 2025

Glaetzer-Dixon Family Winemakers is an urban winery based in Hobart, Tasmania. Established in 2008 by Nick and Sally Glaetzer, they source fruit primarily from a trusted dozen or so growers across Tasmania, with increasing amount of fruit coming from their own, 2018-planted 12-hectare site at Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley.

While famous for their award-winning Shiraz releases, it is the Pinot Noir and Riesling wines that have won them a legion of loyal customers.

The 2024 Avance is a southern Tasmanian blend of Derwent Valley and Coal River Valley fruit.
