Grace Wine Rosé from Japan is a beautifully delicate, quietly detailed and utterly charming rosé crafted by one of Yamanashi’s most respected family wineries. Grace Wine has been working in the foothills of Mt. Fuji since nineteen twenty three, championing Japan’s unique terroir: high altitude vineyards, dramatic diurnal shifts, volcanic and alluvial soils, and the cooling influences of mountain breezes. The estate has become a leader in precision, elegance and purity, especially with the Koshu grape. For this rosé they draw from carefully selected parcels of Koshu and sometimes a whisper of other Japanese varieties, grown on steep, stony slopes that naturally produce wines with fine aromatics, gentle texture and crystalline acidity.
Hand picking ensures perfect delicacy, and whole bunch pressing protects the wine’s pale colour and purity. Fermentation is cool and slow in stainless steel to preserve lift, while a short period on fine lees adds subtle depth without overshadowing brightness. The result is a rosé that feels unmistakably Japanese in its calmness and finesse, offering clarity rather than force, nuance rather than opulence.
The aromatics are graceful and refined. Expect soft red berries like strawberry and cranberry, joined by white peach, citrus blossom, pink grapefruit and a delicate hint of cherry skin. Beneath the fruit lies a subtle mineral thread, with cool stone, alpine herbs and the faintest whisper of rose petal. As it opens, notes of sakura, tangerine peel and light spice bring added dimension.
On the palate the wine is bright, pure and beautifully balanced. Fresh berry and citrus flavours glide over a silk textured frame, shaped by lively yet gentle acidity. Strawberry, redcurrant, peach skin and blood orange unfold gradually with a mineral line that keeps the wine clean and refreshing. The finish is long, dry and elegant, carrying notes of citrus zest, soft florals and wet stone. It is a style that drinks beautifully young but can develop added savoury notes over a year or two.
Perfect with sushi, sashimi, tempura, miso glazed salmon, soba noodles, lightly spiced Asian dishes, salads, tofu dishes, grilled prawns or simply enjoyed chilled on warm afternoons. Its subtlety also makes it a brilliant pairing for delicate cheeses and vegetable led plates.
