Made with the best parcels from Frankland River vineyard sources of Howard Park. This is a medium-weight wine of perfume, silkiness and spice. Hallmark things that the regional shiraz should do with great balance, a knife-edge between ripe, sweet fruit and more pretty, spicy things. Dashes of herbs, a touch of earthiness. It finds great balance and drive. Dare we say syrah via shiraz of Great Southern? Excellent wine. Drink to 2033.

This is a most appealing Shiraz from this season. Lots of dark primary fruits in here, and on the nose there is a spicy, plummy combination that works most appealingly. The palate delivers with restraint and elegance, with a tight, concentrated core of fruit neatly harnessed by fine-grade tannins and cleverly used oak. Quite beautiful mouthfeel. Drink to 2041.

Boysenberry, blackberry and broken cinnamon sticks. It’s medium-bodied, with bright, bouncy fruit and an easy flow across the palate. In the mouth, the aromatics become flavours. Chocolate, red berries, iodine and wet steel carry you into a long, sustained finish. Drink to 2032.

The fruit here was harvested from a selection of the best parcels throughout the team’s vineyards in the Frankland River sub-region in the Great Southern. Maturation was for a year and a half in a mix of barriques, hogsheads and puncheons, all French, with 25% of them new. Vibrant purple/maroon in colour, aromas weave through notes of mulberries, plums, herbs, sage and bay leaves. The oak has been nicely integrated throughout, and we have direction and grip with good power underlying. A wine of decent length which will offer pleasure for ten to twelve years, longer if you have the patience. Drink to 2038.

93 points Ken Gargett for Wine Pilot, July 2026

This wine was made from grapes grown in Howard Park’s vineyards in the Frankland River sub-region of the Great Southern. The 2024 was a warm and dry season that resulted in an early and fast-paced harvest.

The fruit was hand-picked and hand-sorted, and fermentation occurred in a combination of open vats and closed stainless steel fermenters. The batches were matured separately for 18 months in a mixture of French oak puncheons, hogsheads and barriques, with a quarter of the latter new. After blending in stainless steel, the wine was lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling.

About this producer

Howard Park is a family-owned winery with more than 40 years of experience in Western Australia’s Margaret River and Great Southern regions. From its 1986 origin in the latter, the estate has grown to five properties: Leston and Allingham in Margaret River, Mount Barrow and Abercrombie in the Great Southern, and Forest View in Pemberton. Each site has a different focus but the overarching theme is control: tailoring each vine and seasonal bud and keeping the fruit and the expertise in-house.
