Cool maritime influences and ancient soils have made the Great Southern one of Australia's most exciting regions for Chardonnay, producing wines of freshness, finesse and remarkable balance. Howard Park has championed the region since the Burch family established the winery in 1986, drawing on premium vineyards to create wines that express the diversity and elegance of Western Australia's cool climate terroirs. The Flint Rock range offers a vibrant, modern interpretation of Great Southern Chardonnay.
Fruit for the 2025 vintage was sourced from carefully selected vineyards across the region, where warm days and cool nights encouraged slow, even ripening. Gentle oak maturation and extended lees contact have added texture and complexity while allowing the purity of the fruit to remain the focus. The result is a Chardonnay that balances generosity with freshness and precision.
Pale straw gold in colour, the bouquet reveals aromas of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit layered with notes of lemon curd, roasted cashew and subtle flinty complexity. The palate is finely textured and beautifully balanced, offering flavours of citrus, stone fruit and ripe pear supported by bright acidity and a delicate mineral thread. Judicious oak contributes creamy texture and gentle spice, while the finish is long, fresh and elegantly persistent.
This is a superb match for grilled lobster, seared scallops, roast chicken with tarragon, seafood linguine or a pumpkin and sage risotto. Equally enjoyable on its own, it captures the purity and sophistication that have made Great Southern Chardonnay one of Australia's rising stars.
