2024 Josef Chromy ZDAR Pinot Noir, Northern Tasmania

Made in exceptional vintages, this barrel selection is the seventh release in the past 20 years. Bright ruby in the glass with a beautiful bouquet of dark cherry, wild strawberry and plum fruits flecked with hints of hanging game, exotic spice, leaf litter, citrus zest, shiitake, pomegranate and earth. There's an elegant stretch of pure fruits on the palate, harmonious and sleekly proportioned with a long draw of flavour, a mineral cadence and super-powdery tannins on the finish. Drink to 2041.

Youthfully bright, bold purple-red colour. Very bright and young fresh cherry aroma, some cola and Campari traces, fruit driving it, the palate likewise young and somewhat undeveloped compared to other 2024s. Very good depth of flavour, fruit concentration and fine tannin backing. This begs for another year or so in bottle and shows high potential for the future. Very impressive. Drink to 2039.

The 2024 Pinot Noir ZDAR is backward at first but builds over time with savoury aromas of undergrowth, tomato bush, beetroot and crushed spices amplified by plenty of oak. Wellconcentrated flavours are lifted by chalky tannins that hold over a long, drying finish. Sophisticated and at its best after more time in bottle. Drink to 2033.

Czech migrant Josef Chromy established his namesake winery in 2007. Today, the brand and its significant 61-hectare vineyard holdings are jointly owned by the Endeavour Group and Warakirri Asset Management. Chief winemaker Yael Sandler joined the team in 2016 and is today guiding the winery with viticulturist Kellie Graham as her counterpart in the vineyards.
