Julian Haart’s estate Riesling is the clearest window into his philosophy, a wine built to show Mosel purity without ornament. After learning his craft under Egon Müller and working internationally, Haart returned to focus on steep slate vineyards and traditional low intervention methods. The 2024 draws from multiple old parcels across the middle Mosel, where blue slate soils and river cooled air preserve acidity and aromatic lift. It is designed as a snapshot of the region in a single vintage, precise, light on its feet and intensely mineral.
Fermentation is slow and natural, allowing the wine to settle into balance rather than being forced. Alcohol remains modest, keeping the texture airy while the acidity carries flavour. A touch of residual sugar softens the edges without dulling the line. The goal is drinkability paired with authenticity.
Pale straw with silver reflections, the aromas open with lime, green apple and white peach layered with jasmine and crushed stone. The palate is light bodied and crystalline, with citrus fruit threaded through electric acidity. A faint sweetness cushions the entry before snapping into a long, slate driven finish that feels clean and mouthwatering.
It pairs beautifully with seafood, spicy Asian dishes and fresh salads, or simply on its own. Drinking beautifully now for its brightness, it will cellar comfortably for ten to fifteen years, developing honeyed nuance.
