2024 Laissez Faire Riesling, Great Southern

Now this is quite an interesting take on traditional Aussie rieslings. After hand-picking and whole bunch pressing it was partially barrel fermented. After that, there was little intervention, and the result is a pure expression of variety and vineyard. With a textured, flavoursome palate retaining its linear focus. Distinct lemon pitch aromas lift. Drink to 2033.

The 2024 Laissez Faire Riesling leads with a savory, toasty nose—there is a kerosene note aromatically that translates onto the palate. Mandarin, cinnamon, lemon rind and underripe pear fill the palate. The texture is interesting—there is actually texture here, which is attractive in Riesling, no doubt contributed by part of the wine being fermented in neutral oak. Drink to 2030.

This wine comes from the warm and dry 2024 season that followed the good rainfalls across the region in the early spring, conditions that set the vines up for success, and suited Riesling well.
