Lake Breeze Old Vine Grenache offers raspberry, cherry and spice with vibrant Langhorne Creek richness, balance and complexity.
How old is old? Well vines planted in 1932. And look at that price – an absolute bargain, especially as this is a delicious, gorgeous drink. Yes, there’s a touch of red lollies but mostly exuberant red fruits, all punctuated by fresh herbs and warm spices. Juicy, tangy acidity keeps this buoyant but so, too, do lovely textural, sandy tannins. Surely this vies for the best value old-vine wine in Australia? I’m sold.

Old vines are one of Langhorne Creek's greatest assets, and few producers understand their value better than Lake Breeze. Established in 1887, the Follett family estate has become one of South Australia's most respected wineries, combining generations of grape growing experience with a commitment to producing wines that reflect the region's rich heritage. The Old Vine Grenache draws on mature vineyards that deliver concentration, character and a genuine sense of place.
Langhorne Creek's unique climate is shaped by the cooling Lake Doctor breeze that sweeps across the vineyards during the growing season, helping to preserve freshness while allowing fruit to achieve full ripeness. The 2024 vintage provided ideal conditions for Grenache, producing fruit with vibrant aromatics, supple texture and excellent balance. Careful winemaking allows the purity of the fruit and the character of the old vines to shine through.
Bright ruby crimson in colour, the bouquet is fragrant and inviting, revealing aromas of raspberry, red cherry and wild strawberry layered with notes of rose petal, spice and dried herbs. The palate is silky and expressive, delivering juicy red berry fruits, plum and subtle savoury nuances supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. There is wonderful energy and freshness throughout, while the finish lingers with spice, florals and gentle earthy complexity.
This is a superb match for grilled lamb cutlets, chargrilled vegetables, Moroccan spiced dishes, duck burgers or mushroom and lentil ragù. Equally enjoyable slightly chilled on a warm evening, it highlights the elegance and drinkability that make old vine Grenache such a compelling variety.
