Longview Fresco Nebbiolo Pinot Nero Barbera from the Adelaide Hills is a lively, Italian-inspired red that showcases the precision and creativity of winemaker Paul Hotker. Crafted at Longview’s family-owned estate in Macclesfield, this blend celebrates the bright, savoury and drinkable side of Mediterranean varieties grown in cool climate South Australia. It’s a beautifully perfumed, textural wine that combines Old World charm with Adelaide Hills vitality.
The fruit comes entirely from Longview’s hillside vineyard, where the long, even growing season and cool nights allow Nebbiolo, Pinot Nero and Barbera to ripen slowly and retain their hallmark freshness. Each component plays a distinct role in the final wine: Nebbiolo brings structure and fine tannins, Pinot Nero adds red fruit and silky texture, and Barbera lifts everything with juicy acidity and spice. The grapes are hand picked, fermented separately with indigenous yeasts, and gently pressed before blending. A short maturation in seasoned French oak helps to soften edges while preserving the wine’s brightness and aromatic purity.
In the glass it gleams a vibrant ruby red. The aroma is expressive and enticing, offering red cherry, cranberry, and rose petal alongside hints of blood orange, herbs and savoury spice. The palate is medium bodied and silky, showing layers of bright red fruit balanced by crisp acidity and supple tannins. A gentle savoury note adds depth, leading to a clean, refreshing finish with echoes of dried herbs and citrus zest.
It’s the ideal food wine — superb with antipasto, chargrilled vegetables, duck ragu or wood-fired pizza. Serve it lightly chilled to emphasise its freshness and perfume. Though made for early enjoyment, it will continue to evolve gracefully for up to five years, gaining subtle earthy complexity.
