A pretty mid lemon colour. The Meursault has a little more weight, evident from the nose, I like the balance of this Meursault on the palate, with adequately ripe orchard fruit, kept fresh by a backbone of clean acidity, but the fruit goes on speaking all the way through to a long finish. Drink from 2028-2031. Tasted Oct 2025.
89-91 points Jasper Morris MW Inside Burgundy
Tucked away on the upper slopes above Meursault, Les Meix Chavaux is one of the village's most highly regarded lieu dits, producing Chardonnay with a little more tension and mineral drive than some of the richer sites lower on the slope. Domaine Lucien Muzard, based in Santenay, has quietly built a reputation for producing wines of authenticity, precision and exceptional value. Today, brothers Claude and Hervé Muzard continue the family's winemaking tradition, focusing on meticulous vineyard work and restrained winemaking that allows each site to speak clearly.
Fruit for this wine comes from limestone rich soils that contribute freshness and definition to the naturally generous character of Meursault. The 2024 vintage has delivered excellent fruit purity, balancing ripeness with vibrant acidity. Careful élevage in French oak enhances texture and complexity without dominating the vineyard expression, resulting in a wine that is refined rather than overtly opulent.
Bright pale gold in colour, the aromas reveal layers of ripe pear, white peach and preserved lemon, intertwined with toasted hazelnut, acacia blossom and subtle vanilla spice. With time in the glass, notes of warm brioche, fresh cream and crushed stone emerge, adding depth and intrigue. The palate combines Meursault's signature richness with impressive energy, offering flavours of orchard fruits, citrus curd and almond wrapped around a silky texture. A fine mineral thread runs through the wine, bringing freshness and precision before a long, harmonious finish.
This is a superb match for lobster with herb butter, roast chicken with morels, pan seared scallops, crab ravioli or a wild mushroom and tarragon tart. Aged Comté and nutty alpine cheeses are equally rewarding companions. While already approachable, the balance of fruit, acidity and structure will allow it to develop beautifully over the next 10 to 15 years, revealing even greater complexity with time.
Cellaring: Drink from 2026 through 2040.
