2024 Malenchini Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Tuscany

Just south of Florence, the Malenchini family has been producing authentic Tuscan wines on the historic San Michele a Torri estate for generations. Surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees and rolling vineyards, the estate remains dedicated to traditional winemaking, crafting elegant Sangiovese that reflects the character and heritage of the Colli Fiorentini hills.

The Colli Fiorentini zone enjoys slightly higher elevations than much of Chianti, where galestro and clay soils, warm days and cool evenings encourage slow ripening and vibrant natural acidity. Predominantly Sangiovese, this classic Tuscan red captures the freshness, savoury character and food friendly appeal that have made Chianti a favourite around the world.

The colour is a brilliant ruby red with youthful crimson highlights. Aromas of ripe cherry, wild raspberry and red plum are lifted by violet, dried herbs and a touch of sweet spice. The palate is bright and beautifully balanced, carrying juicy red berry fruit through fine silky tannins and lively acidity. Gentle notes of liquorice, earthy spice and savoury herbs linger across a long, harmonious finish.

A delicious companion to handmade pappardelle with slow cooked duck ragù, grilled Florentine sausages with rosemary, roasted eggplant with pecorino, tomato and basil gnocchi or herb roasted chicken with cannellini beans. Enjoy while young for its vibrant fruit or cellar for five to seven years as extra complexity develops.
