Made for long lunches and warm evenings, this joyful southern Rhône red comes from Mas de Libian, a biodynamic estate on the western bank of the river near Saint Marcel d’Ardèche. The Thibon family farms old vines on sandy, stony soils surrounded by wild herbs and garrigue, and their low intervention philosophy is all about vitality and drinkability. Vin de Pétanque is named after the classic French backyard game and captures that same relaxed spirit, a wine meant to be shared rather than analysed.
The blend leans on Grenache with supporting Rhône varieties, fermented gently to preserve fruit and freshness. No heavy oak, no over extraction, just bright, living wine shaped by biodynamic farming and careful handling. The goal is energy and pleasure.
Bright ruby in colour, the aromas burst with raspberry, red cherry and wild strawberry layered with violet and a faint herbal spice. The palate is light to medium bodied and juicy, with crunchy red fruit wrapped in soft tannins and lively acidity. Flavours of berry and spice glide into a clean, refreshing finish that invites another glass.
It pairs effortlessly with charcuterie, grilled vegetables, pizza and casual shared plates. Slightly chilled, it becomes even more vibrant. Best enjoyed young for its snap and charm.
