Oakridge Over The Shoulder Pinot Noir is a vibrant and approachable expression of cool-climate Yarra Valley Pinot, crafted with the finesse and precision that Oakridge has become renowned for. Established in 1978, Oakridge is one of the Yarra’s benchmark producers, celebrated for its site-specific wines that capture the elegance of the region. Chief winemaker David Bicknell has been instrumental in refining the estate’s modern style, focusing on purity, balance, and the subtle nuances of place.

The fruit for Over The Shoulder Pinot Noir is sourced from select vineyard sites across the Yarra Valley, where cool mornings, warm days, and long growing seasons create ideal conditions for producing aromatic, finely structured Pinot. The soils are a mix of ancient sandy clay loams and volcanic material, providing good drainage and imparting fine tannins and mineral lift. The fruit is harvested early to preserve brightness, then fermented with a mix of whole berries and whole bunches to build texture and complexity. Aging in older French oak barrels allows the wine’s delicate fruit character to shine.

In the glass, it shows a translucent ruby hue. Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry mingle with subtle notes of rose petals, spice, and a hint of earth. The palate is light to medium bodied, juicy, and finely textured, with vibrant red fruit, gentle tannins, and a refreshing line of acidity that makes it immensely drinkable. This Pinot is an excellent match for duck breast with cherry glaze, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or charcuterie with soft cheeses. Its freshness also makes it a great partner for roasted beetroot salad or simple roast chicken. While designed for immediate enjoyment, it can cellar nicely for 3 to 5 years, developing a little extra savoury depth.
