The Pasqua family has been making wine in Verona since 1925, building a reputation for expressive, approachable wines that celebrate the traditions of the Veneto. Their Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is a particularly appealing example, combining the lively fruit of classic Valpolicella with the richness and savoury complexity that come from the region's distinctive ripasso method.
Made primarily from Corvina, supported by traditional local varieties, the 2024 undergoes a second fermentation on the grape skins remaining from Amarone production. This adds body, texture and depth while preserving the wine's vibrant cherry fruit and characteristic Italian freshness.
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. Ripe black cherry, red plum and dried cranberry mingle with cinnamon, dark chocolate and a hint of sweet tobacco. The palate is supple and richly flavoured, with juicy dark fruit, gentle spice and smooth tannins. A touch of dried herbs and cocoa carries through a satisfying, savoury finish.
Try it with porcini and taleggio arancini, slow cooked beef ragù with pappardelle or roasted eggplant with tomato, mozzarella and basil. It is also a terrific match for wood fired pizza with spicy salami.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2031. Its ripe fruit and supple structure make it appealing young, with a few years available for further savoury development.
