Easygoing Tuscan charm with a bit of polish behind it. Poggiotondo, led by Alberto Antonini, has built a reputation for clean, site driven Sangiovese, and this organic Chianti is all about freshness, drinkability and honest flavour from the hills around Cerreto Guidi.
The 2024 is lively and bright. Sour cherry, red plum and wild strawberry lead, with a lift of violet and a flicker of dried herbs. There’s a subtle savoury edge too, a touch of spice, a hint of earth and that classic Sangiovese tang that keeps everything in check.
It moves quickly across the palate. Medium in weight with a crisp line of acidity that gives the wine energy, and fine, lightly grippy tannins that shape the fruit without slowing it down. The finish is clean and slightly savoury, with red fruit and herbs lingering.
Antonini’s approach keeps things simple and precise, gentle extraction, minimal intervention, letting the fruit and vineyard do the work.
This is built for the table. Think pizza straight from the oven, pasta with tomato and basil, or grilled sausages with fennel. It also works beautifully with dishes like eggplant parmigiana, a chickpea and tomato stew, or even a simple charred vegetable plate, where the acidity keeps everything fresh.
Drink it young and enjoy the energy, it’s all about vibrancy and ease.
