Single vineyard Chardonnay with fresh, savoury citrus and stone fruit
Portsea Estate was planted in 2000 to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo on a low elevation site of humus rich topsoils over calcareous sands. The estate also draws fruit from a second site in Main Ridge at an elevation of 172 metres planted in stages from 1997 to 2022 to Chardonnay as well as Pinots Gris and Noir. The two sites are farmed to principles of regenerative viticulture and are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
All of the fruit for this wine was grown in the higher estate vineyard in Main Ridge. Fruit is picked on brightness, with the team wanting to present wines built on energy, fresh, pure fruit flavours and natural acidity.
The floral nose on this wine shows white peach, lemon and grapefruit with subtle savoury and flinty notes. Medium-bodied, the finely textured palate is driven by bright acidity and continues the stone fruit and citrus theme with a dry, focused and persistent finish.
Ready to enjoy on release but also likely to age well for a number of years in the bottle. Enjoy with butter-fried scallops or white fleshed fish - something that is not too heavy and appreciates the freshness the wine brings to table.
