Fresh and lively regional Mornington Peninsula blend with creamy citrus and stone fruit
Portsea Estate was planted in 2000 to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo on a low elevation site of humus rich topsoils over calcareous sands. The estate also draws fruit from a second site in Main Ridge at an elevation of 172 metres planted in stages from 1997 to 2022 to Chardonnay as well as Pinots Gris and Noir. The two sites are farmed to principles of regenerative viticulture and are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
The Back Beach wine are made from both estate and contract grown Mornington Peninsula fruit. The 2025 Back Beach Chardonnay is a blend of fruit grown in Main Ridge, Merricks, Merricks North and Dromana. It was aged mainly in seasoned French (10% new) with half of the final blend having gone through malolactic conversion.
The wine greets with fragrant, lifted aromas of nectarines and lemon, with savoury oak notes emerging with time in the glass. The lively palate continues the stone fruit and citrus theme, complemented by creamy baked goods and nice line of acidity.
A fresh drink-now style, serve this with fresh, grilled crustaceans and seafood.
