Primo Estate Il Briccone Shiraz Sangiovese from McLaren Vale is a bold and playful Italian-Australian fusion, crafted by the Grilli family to celebrate their heritage and the region’s gift for generous, sun kissed reds. Shiraz forms the core, delivering plush dark fruit and McLaren Vale warmth, while Sangiovese brings lifted cherry brightness, fine tannins and a savoury edge that keeps the wine lively. Fruit is grown on the estate’s sustainably managed vineyards, hand harvested for flavour intensity, then fermented in small batches before maturation in a mix of old and new oak to balance richness with structure. The name Il Briccone means the rascal, a nod to this wine’s lively personality and free spirited blend.

The nose bursts with blackberry, black cherry and plum alongside redcurrant, raspberry and wild strawberry from the Sangiovese. Hints of chocolate, toasted spice, dried herbs and warm earth drift through the background, with a subtle smoky lift that reflects the sun baked landscape of McLaren Vale. As the wine opens, dried cherry, licorice, leather and a little vanilla bean complexity join the mix.

The palate is rich yet balanced, with juicy dark fruits gliding over chalky, Italian styled tannins. Flavours of blackberry compote, cherry liqueur, mulberry, savoury spice and cocoa unfold in generous layers. A bright line of acidity from the Sangiovese keeps the wine energetic, guiding it into a long, dry finish with lingering fruit, spice and a whisper of herbs.
