A pretty blush pink hue in the glass. Pickled ginger, papaya and poached red wine pears. There is a slippery quality to the natural acidity with cool tones of white strawberry, Pink Lady apples and quince. The wine has glimmers of just-discernible fruit nectar which lingers, however, the wine finishes dry and moreish. This is a wine that has been made with a good understanding of the attraction of the variety and the use of different picking time and vessels to produce a beautiful and compelling pinot gris. The beauty here is that no matter if you are a pinot grigio or a pinot gris drinker, this wine is of such quality that everyone would enjoy it.

Printhie Topography Pinot Gris from Orange is a cool-climate white wine that beautifully balances texture, freshness and varietal charm. Grown in the high-altitude vineyards of the Orange region in New South Wales — typically over 900 metres above sea level — this wine benefits from a long, slow ripening season that preserves acidity and builds aromatic complexity.

Winemaking is focused on expressing both the fruit purity and the subtle richness that Pinot Gris can offer. A portion of the wine sees time on lees, enhancing mouthfeel and adding a gentle creaminess, while fermentation is carried out in stainless steel to retain vibrancy and clarity.

The nose is inviting and expressive, with aromas of pear, white peach, honeysuckle and a hint of spice. On the palate, it’s medium bodied with a soft, rounded texture and flavours of ripe apple, lemon curd and nashi pear. There’s a line of fresh acidity and a slightly mineral edge that brings definition to the finish.

Food pairing: excellent with Thai green curry, grilled prawns, pork and fennel sausages, roast chicken, or soft cheeses like brie and burrata. Also lovely with miso-glazed eggplant or herbed risotto.

Cellar potential: best enjoyed young within 3 to 5 years to preserve its freshness and gentle texture.
