With no crus produced in 2024, the Produttori del Barbaresco co-operative kept the top plots for a single Barbaresco, and the best of the rest was selected for this Langhe Nebbiolo. While it is paler and lighter that recent vintages, it pleases with its purity of perfumes. Quintessential aromas of red rose are nestled into red berries. There are hints of chestnut and black tea on the palate, where the tannins are delicate and silky. Not the most depth but lacy and satisfyingly drinkable.

The 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo pours a bright red color and opens with fresh aromas of raspberries and dusty earth in a beautifully classic expression of the vintage. Medium-bodied, it is balanced and refreshing, with fine tannins and snappy notes of orange peel that carry through the finish. Production was unusually large this year, with roughly 180,000 bottles produced. Drink 2026-2038.

Before Nebbiolo ascends the heights of Barbaresco, it often first reveals its charm and personality in Langhe Nebbiolo. Few producers understand that journey better than Produttori del Barbaresco, the legendary cooperative founded in 1958 under the guidance of parish priest Don Fiorino Marengo. Today, the winery remains one of Italy's great success stories, bringing together many of Barbaresco's finest growers with a shared commitment to quality and authenticity.

Fruit for the Langhe Nebbiolo is sourced from younger vines and carefully selected parcels surrounding the famous crus of Barbaresco, allowing the wine to capture the essence of the region in a more approachable and youthful style. The excellent 2024 vintage delivered fruit of superb aromatic purity and freshness, perfectly suited to Nebbiolo's naturally expressive character.

Bright garnet ruby in colour, the bouquet is immediately inviting with aromas of rose petal, red cherry and wild strawberry layered with blood orange, violet and gentle spice. As the wine opens, hints of anise, tea leaf and forest floor emerge, adding complexity and unmistakable Piedmont character. The palate is vibrant and beautifully poised, combining juicy red fruits with fine tannins and lively acidity. There is wonderful energy and elegance throughout, while the finish lingers with floral perfume, savoury notes and a refreshing mineral edge.

This is a superb companion for mushroom risotto, tajarin with butter and sage, duck ragù, veal cotoletta or a generous wedge of Parmigiano Reggiano. Equally enjoyable with a slight chill on warmer evenings, it captures the fragrance, charm and drinkability that make Langhe Nebbiolo one of Italy's most rewarding wines.
