The Rob Dolan White Label Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley captures the essence of this cool-climate region, combining precision, freshness and texture. Rob Dolan, a stalwart of Victorian winemaking, has built his reputation on expressive, elegant wines that let vineyard character shine. The White Label range is designed to show regional identity with a little more depth and complexity, making this Chardonnay both approachable in youth and rewarding with age.
Fruit is sourced from select Yarra Valley vineyards, where the region’s cooler conditions, long ripening season and ancient soils provide perfect balance between fruit intensity and natural acidity. Winemaking is thoughtful and restrained: whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation in French oak (a portion new), and extended lees contact bring layers of savoury nuance and texture while preserving purity of fruit.
In the glass it shows pale gold with green reflections. Aromas are vibrant and layered, with white peach, nectarine and citrus zest complemented by notes of nougat, cashew, flint and subtle oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and finely balanced, offering stone fruit and grapefruit supported by creamy texture, a touch of struck match and a long, mineral finish.
Food pairings highlight its elegance and texture: roasted chicken with lemon and thyme, seared scallops, creamy mushroom linguine or vegetarian dishes like pumpkin ravioli with sage butter. It also works beautifully with washed rind or soft cheeses. With 6 to 10 years of cellaring potential, the wine develops richness, honeyed notes and nutty complexity while maintaining its fresh acid backbone.
