This is a most impressive Chardonnay from the Dixon’s Creek Vineyard in the Yarra. A combination of two clones has been used with each treated separately initially. It combines a pristine purity with a little more weight, creating a wine in perfect harmony. The nose has some nice grapefruit and sea spray characters while the palate delivers with a fine and spritely mix of light stone fruit, citrus and brioche. A subtle creaminess is balanced by the fine minerality.

Two chardonnay clones, P58 and 76, were picked and processed separately before being matured for nine months in French oak (40% new). Brightly coloured. An attractive melange of stone fruits, white pepper, hazelnuts and marine scents. Gently textured, tensile and balanced, with a little grapefruit pith on the persistent, chalky finish.

Mandala Compass Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley is a beautifully composed wine that showcases both the region’s cool climate finesse and Mandala’s commitment to precision and elegance. Crafted from fruit grown in high-elevation vineyards across the Upper Yarra, the Compass Chardonnay captures the balance of richness and tension that defines the best examples from this region — a seamless interplay of ripe stone fruit, citrus brightness and fine mineral drive.
The grapes are hand picked and gently pressed before fermentation in French oak barriques, a small proportion of which are new. Wild yeast fermentation and time on lees contribute depth, texture and complexity, while partial malolactic fermentation preserves freshness and energy. The result is a Chardonnay that is textural and layered but never heavy, guided by a subtle hand in the cellar and a clear expression of vineyard character.
In the glass it shows pale straw with green glints. The aroma is refined and inviting, opening with white peach, grapefruit and citrus blossom, supported by hints of cashew, nougat and struck flint. On the palate it is elegant and finely textured, combining ripe stone fruit and lemon curd with creamy oak and a lingering mineral finish. The acidity is bright and cleansing, giving the wine lift and longevity.
Mandala Compass Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled scallops, roast chicken, creamy pasta with herbs, or soft cheeses. It also complements dishes featuring fresh seafood or truffle. Drink it now for its vibrancy and texture, or cellar for up to eight years to reveal more nutty, honeyed depth with age.
