Rob Dolan True Colours Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley is a bright, expressive and beautifully balanced example of cool climate Australian Chardonnay. It embodies Rob Dolan’s philosophy of crafting wines that are both true to their region and approachable in style — modern, fruit-driven and full of character. The True Colours range celebrates varietal purity and the vibrancy of Yarra Valley fruit, and this Chardonnay is a fine reflection of that approach, blending freshness, texture and a touch of refinement.
The fruit comes from select vineyards across the Yarra Valley, where the region’s cool nights and gentle sunshine allow Chardonnay to ripen slowly, developing flavour while retaining natural acidity. The grapes are hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and partially fermented in French oak barriques, with a portion left in stainless steel to preserve brightness. Lees stirring adds creaminess and subtle savoury notes, while minimal malolactic fermentation keeps the wine crisp and lively.
In the glass it glows pale straw with green highlights. The aroma is lifted and appealing, offering white peach, melon and citrus blossom with hints of almond, vanilla and struck flint. The palate is medium bodied and textural, showing layers of stone fruit, lemon curd and grapefruit balanced by fine acidity and a gentle touch of oak. The finish is long, fresh and clean, combining elegance with easy drinkability.
It pairs beautifully with grilled scallops, roast chicken, creamy pasta with herbs, or soft cheeses. It also works well with seafood dishes or vegetable risotto. Delicious in its youth for its vibrancy and balance, it will continue to evolve for five to seven years, gaining richness and nutty complexity over time.
