The shining golden-colored 2024 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a beautifully flavored TBA with great precision on the nose and palate. Rich and round but enormously vital and also saline on the palate, this is a lemony fresh, zesty and highly refined TBA that has a rare digestibility for a TBA predicate. It is highly stimulating. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork.

98 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

The 2024 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Trockenbeerenauslese was harvested in the most minimal qualities out of sheer determination. Its light amber hue shines in the glass while candied apricot blends with candied lemon on the nose before its zestiness takes the lead. Thrilling purity and acidity make this laser-like and unrelenting in its driven energy. It is like airy, spun gold of acidity and fruit, like sweetness refracted through sunlight. The 2024 is superb, otherworldly and absolutely intense. Its 2.5 g/L of acidity dazzle and illuminate 210 g/L of residual sugar. (Luscious)

100 points, Anne Krebiehl, Vinous

There are sweet wines, and then there is Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Trockenbeerenauslese. Robert Weil founded his Kiedrich estate in 1875, and today Wilhelm Weil continues the family’s extraordinary Riesling tradition. Gräfenberg is the estate’s greatest vineyard, a steep south west facing site above Kiedrich that has been prized for centuries. Trockenbeerenauslese from here sits among the rarest wines Weil makes, produced only when individual berries achieve the extraordinary concentration required.

The 2024 growing season demanded enormous work in the vineyard, but conditions allowed meticulous selection of tiny quantities of botrytised, shrivelled Riesling berries. Gräfenberg’s phyllite and slate soils and the naturally high acidity of Riesling are crucial at this level of sweetness. The magic of great TBA is not simply sugar or richness, but the tension between immense concentration and piercing acidity that keeps the wine astonishingly alive.

Deep luminous gold, with an extraordinary bouquet of apricot preserve, candied lemon, quince paste and ripe peach. Saffron, orange marmalade and acacia honey follow, then ginger, chamomile and a smoky mineral note. The palate is almost viscous in concentration, with waves of apricot, citrus preserve and honey cut by brilliant Riesling acidity. Saffron and candied orange build through the middle, while a fine mineral bitterness keeps the sweetness in check. The finish seems to go on indefinitely, moving between apricot, lemon, honey and spice.

Foie gras is the classic, but blue cheese with quince, apricot tarte tatin, almond and peach tart or a simple piece of excellent Roquefort would all be magnificent. Our pick is actually the Roquefort. With a wine this rare, keep the food simple, pour it into proper glasses and let Gräfenberg do the showing off.

Cellaring: Extraordinary ageing potential. Drink from 2030 or cellar comfortably to 2070+.
