The 2024 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Beerenauslese was made from shriveled grapes without botrytis. It is luminous with a light amber hue. Ripe peach, orange peel and passion fruit aromas enliven the nose. Supple lift drives its perfume home and heavenwards. The palate is intense, candied, pure, lemony and so vivid. The sharpest touch of acid is like a laser beam, creating unrelenting precision, clarity and concentration. This is absolutely intense and slender. It is the picture of purity at around 170 g/L of residual sugar. (Sweet)

The golden-colored 2024 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese is caramelly on the rich, very intense and nutty nose, although there was almost no botrytis (just 40%). Sweet, highly refined, elegant and enormously saline on the palate, this is a very rich but also precise and balanced Riesling BA with a long and generous finish. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2025.

Gräfenberg is the jewel of Robert Weil, the Kiedrich estate founded in 1875 and today led by Wilhelm Weil. This steep vineyard above the village has been recognised as an exceptional site for centuries, and its finest Rieslings rank among Germany’s most collectible wines. Beerenauslese takes things into another realm, requiring painstaking selection of individual, intensely ripe berries, often touched by noble rot. Quantities are tiny and production depends entirely on the vintage giving the vineyard the opportunity.

The 2024 season required patience and relentless vineyard work, making wines at Beerenauslese level particularly precious. Gräfenberg’s phyllite rich soils and elevated position help Riesling retain the formidable acidity needed to balance such concentration. Compared with the extraordinary density of Trockenbeerenauslese, BA can feel a little more airborne, still intensely sweet but with wonderful citrus energy running through the luscious fruit.

Brilliant golden yellow, with ripe apricot, white peach and quince rising from the glass, followed by orange marmalade, acacia honey and candied lemon. Saffron, ginger and chamomile emerge with air, along with a smoky mineral note. The palate is wonderfully concentrated and silky, yet brilliant acidity slices through the sweetness. Apricot and honey are joined by preserved citrus and quince before a long finish of candied orange, saffron and cool mineral spice.

Apricot and almond tart would be beautiful, alongside peach tarte tatin, foie gras with quince, blue cheese and pear or a simple plate of Roquefort and toasted walnuts. Our pick is the apricot and almond tart, served barely sweet so the wine remains very much the star.

Cellaring: Sublime young, but built for decades. Drink from 2028 or cellar to 2060+.
