From a cooler side valley and pure gray slate soils, the 2024 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken opens with a deep, intense and coolish, very clear and stony bouquet of crushed stones, herbs and lemon zests. Full-bodied, finely creamy, vital and very saline on the palate, with fine tannin grip and a certain kind of sweetness or texture, this is a tight, savory, saline and persistent Turmberg with excellent aging capacity. 12.5% stated alcohol.

96 points Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate

The 2024 Riesling Kiedricher Turmberg Erste Lage fermented spontaneously in Doppelstück after a short period of skin contact. The nose is still shy and shimmering with lime and greengage skins. The palate brings a gorgeous lime pith note to the fore, adding riper notions of Reine Claude plum. This is beautifully tart, bracing and fresh, with that wonderful plummy core. The 2024 is juicy, slender and so very animating with exquisite clarity and such purity. (Bone-dry)

93 points Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous

Turmberg occupies a special place in the Robert Weil collection, rising steeply above Kiedrich beside the celebrated Gräfenberg. The vineyard takes its name from the surviving tower of the medieval Scharfenstein castle that overlooks the vines. Under Wilhelm Weil, the fourth generation of the family, Turmberg has become a compelling expression of Kiedrich Riesling in its own right, typically combining ripe fruit with a taut, stony character.

The steep slopes and shallow, stony soils provide excellent drainage and encourage the vines to work hard, while the elevated position helps preserve acidity as the grapes ripen. The challenging 2024 season required meticulous selection, but its naturally bright acidity suits the dry Turmberg style beautifully. It has more depth and muscle than Klosterberg, while remaining a little more immediately accessible than the formidable Gräfenberg GG.

Pale straw gold with green highlights, the nose starts with lime, white peach and grapefruit, followed by yellow apple and lemon blossom. Fresh ginger and chamomile add fragrance, while crushed stone and a faint smoky character provide a darker counterpoint. The palate is dry and energetic, with juicy citrus and peach meeting firm acidity and a fine mineral grip. Grapefruit peel and preserved lemon tighten the finish, leaving a long trail of stone, citrus and gentle spice.

King prawns with lemongrass and ginger would be excellent, alongside steamed snapper with spring onion, scallops with brown butter and capers, pork belly with five spice or crispy tofu with sesame and chilli. Our pick is the prawns, where their sweetness and aromatic lemongrass work beautifully with Turmberg’s citrus and mineral bite.

Cellaring: Drink now for its energy, although 2027 to 2040 should reveal considerably more complexity.
