Dry and intense, with lime, white peach and smoky minerals driving a long Rheingau finish.
From the famous, southwest-facing grand cru, the 2024 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trocken GG is deep, intense and generous on the nose that intertwines coolish notes of crushed slate and salt with leafy notes and the sweetness of 100% oak (doppelstücks). On the palate, this is a full-bodied, fresh, elegant, refined and savory Riesling. It is not as mighty as the Gräfenberg can be, but it is endlessly saline. 12.5% stated alcohol.

The 2024 Riesling Kiedricher Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs is aromatic from the off, with lemon balm, juicy lemon and greengage aromas, followed by a touch of creaminess and bright allure. The palate is absolutely vivid, taut and tense, with the most gorgeous citrusy juiciness that delves into a note of Reine Claude plum. This is a picture of purity, clarity and Riesling raciness with a lovely, thrilling streak of lime on the finish. (Bone-dry)

Gräfenberg is the vineyard that defines Robert Weil. Rising steeply above Kiedrich, it has been recognised as a superior site for centuries and today sits among the Rheingau’s most revered Riesling vineyards. The estate was founded by Robert Weil in 1875 and is now led by Wilhelm Weil, with the dry Grosses Gewächs standing as one of the purest expressions of Gräfenberg and a benchmark for serious dry German Riesling.
The steep south west facing vineyard is rooted in stony phyllite soils, with excellent drainage and exposure allowing Riesling to ripen slowly while retaining formidable acidity. The 2024 season was demanding, with growers navigating rain, disease pressure and rigorous selection. At Weil, that work has produced a Gräfenberg with concentration but also terrific energy. Compared with the minute production Monte Vacano, the GG gives a broader picture of this extraordinary vineyard while remaining unmistakably serious and cellar worthy.
Pale gold with green flashes, the bouquet begins with lime, white peach and grapefruit before moving towards yellow apple and a little apricot. Lemon blossom, fresh ginger and chamomile provide aromatic detail, with crushed stone and smoke emerging underneath. The palate is dry and tightly structured, its stone fruit wrapped around vivid citrus acidity and a firm mineral core. Grapefruit peel, preserved lemon and subtle herbs build through the middle before a long, mouth watering finish of citrus, stone and gentle smoke.
Steamed coral trout with ginger and spring onion would be superb, alongside scallops with brown butter and capers, lobster with preserved lemon, Vietnamese turmeric fish or roast chicken with morels. Our pick is the coral trout. Its delicate sweetness and aromatic ginger allow Gräfenberg’s citrus and mineral character to stay firmly in charge.
