Crisp and dry, alive with lime, green apple and grapefruit over a cool, stony Rheingau finish.
Vinified in stainless steel (two-thirds) and large oak casks (one-third) the 2024 Kiedricher Riesling Trocken is from later-harvested grapes in higher altitudes and rockier soils, even Erste and Grosse Lage sites. The wine is still a little bit reductive on the nose and opens deep, intense and flinty, with notes of crushed stones. On the palate, this is a round, refined and elegant, really pristine and mouth-filling yet light and finessed Riesling with a long, saline and finely grippy finish. This is an excellent, energetic and playful entry into the crus from Robert Weil. 12% stated alcohol.
92 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
The 2024 Riesling Kiedricher is, as always, from the younger vines of Turmberg, Klosterberg, Gräfenberg and Wasseros from just underneath the forest. This was partially made in large, neutral wood, with 70% of the wine in stainless steel. It opens with a heightened, citric allure, accompanied by a touch of angelica. The slender palate has a gorgeous crunch. This is so elegant and refreshing. (Bone-dry)

Kiedricher is one of the best ways into the world of Robert Weil, sitting below the estate’s single vineyard wines but carrying the same unmistakable Kiedrich identity. Founded in 1875 and now led by fourth generation Wilhelm Weil, the estate has spent more than a century building its reputation around Riesling from the steep hills surrounding this small Rheingau village. This village level bottling draws its character from those Kiedrich vineyards without the price or patience demanded by Gräfenberg.
Kiedrich’s vineyards are unusual within the Rheingau, with steep slopes and stony phyllite rich soils giving Riesling a particularly firm mineral character. The demanding 2024 season required plenty of work and careful selection, but its naturally bright acidity is beautifully suited to dry Riesling. The result is less about the concentration of Gräfenberg or Turmberg and more about freshness, clarity and sheer drinkability.
Very pale straw with green highlights, with lime, green apple and white peach at the front of the bouquet. Grapefruit and lemon blossom follow, joined by fresh ginger, fennel and a faint smoky stone note. The palate is dry, crisp and beautifully lively, with citrus and green apple carried by mouth watering acidity. Grapefruit peel adds bite through the middle before a clean finish of lime, herbs and crushed stone.
Prawn and chive dumplings would disappear quickly alongside this, as would salt and pepper squid, grilled whiting with lemon and capers, kingfish crudo with finger lime or crispy tofu with ginger and sesame. Our pick is the kingfish, where clean raw fish and sharp citrus let the Riesling’s freshness do all the work.
Cellaring: Drink now to 2035.
