Sons of Eden Freya Riesling is produced in Eden Valley, South Australia, a region celebrated for its high-quality Rieslings. Sons of Eden, founded by winemakers Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham, is dedicated to crafting wines that express the unique terroirs of the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Named after the Norse goddess Freya, this Riesling captures the purity and elegance of Eden Valley’s cool climate and high altitude, known for producing vibrant, age-worthy Rieslings.
A focused bouquet of citrus-lime, white currant and a tinge of elderflower and spice. The palate is flavoursome and beautifully balanced with excellent intensity and refinement. A wine with life and zest, typical of great Eden Valley Rieslings.
I've written before how I like the 2024 Eden Valley rieslings. They are perhaps not as aromatically punchy as the norm but they are stony-pure with that familiar Christmas lily volume just turned down a notch. But that focused line, eh?! The Freya here is a beauty, all velocity and limey precision and I am here for it. A cracker.

The Sons of Eden Freya Riesling from Eden Valley is a beautifully expressive white that captures the freshness, purity and classic character of this high-altitude region. Winemakers Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham founded Sons of Eden with the idea of celebrating the individuality of Barossa and Eden Valley vineyards, and Freya has become one of their most recognisable wines. Named after the Norse goddess of beauty and fertility, Freya lives up to its name with grace, poise and vitality in every glass.
Sourced from a selection of elevated Eden Valley vineyards planted on ancient rocky soils, Freya is made with minimal intervention to showcase Riesling’s crisp aromatics and taut structure.
In the glass, the wine is pale straw with green tints. The bouquet is delicate yet vibrant, offering lime zest, lemon blossom, crushed stone and hints of jasmine. On the palate it is dry, racy and precise, with flavours of citrus, green apple and mineral salts. A fine chalky texture and zippy acidity give the wine length and drive, finishing with refreshing purity.
Food pairings are plentiful: freshly shucked oysters, kingfish ceviche, Thai green curry with lemongrass, or light Vietnamese salads all highlight its brightness. It’s also superb with soft goat’s cheese or simply grilled whiting. While designed to drink beautifully in its youth, Freya has 10–12 years of cellaring potential, developing into a more complex wine with honeyed, toasty layers while retaining its vibrant core.
