Tar & Roses Pinot Grigio from Heathcote is a wonderfully expressive take on the northern Italian classic, given a distinctly Central Victorian edge. Winemakers Don Lewis and Narelle King created Tar & Roses with the philosophy of crafting Mediterranean-inspired wines that thrive in Australia’s warm climate, and this Pinot Grigio is one of the stars of their portfolio.

The grapes are sourced from select Heathcote vineyards where the warm days build ripeness and depth, while cooler nights preserve freshness and natural acidity. The result is a vibrant yet textured Pinot Grigio that walks the line between crisp refreshment and a more complex, food-friendly white. Aromas of pear, white peach and citrus blossom open the nose, followed by hints of almond and a subtle savoury edge. The palate has a lively freshness, but also a touch of richness, showing stone fruits, lemon zest and a whisper of spice, finishing with a clean, mineral edge.

This is a versatile wine at the table, pairing beautifully with grilled calamari, prawn linguine, or antipasti featuring prosciutto and fresh cheeses. Its zesty acidity also makes it a refreshing match for Vietnamese rice paper rolls or lightly spiced Thai salads. With its youthful vibrancy, it is best enjoyed within three to five years of vintage.
