Suave, fleshy and critically acclaimed iteration of the classic red Barossa blend
The Steading is a 57% Grenache, 33% Shiraz, and 10% Mataro blend, and it is another vintage in a run of stellar wines under this label. With more weight, darkness and power than the beautiful 2023, this is a purple-fruit-soaked wine with an extraordinary stance on the palate, and the aura here is of a very grand wine, and it is always a bargain price! With 5000 cases made, this suave creation is absolutely extraordinary, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Medium-deep crimson. Musky plum, red cherry, apricot aromas with praline, hint bush garrigue notes. Beautifully concentrated and fleshy with lovely plummy, strawberry, red cherry fruits, lovely mid-palate richness, and persistent and brisk chalky tannins. Underlying acidity gives crispness and line. 50% grenache, 30% shiraz, 20% mataro. Includes circa late-1840s (mataro) and 1893 (shiraz) plantings. Drink to 2030.

The '24 release sees a blend of 57% grenache, 33% shiraz and 10% mataro, and that strong vintage shows through in the wine's purity and long stretch of flavour. It's all blueberry, boysenberry and juicy plum with layers of exotic and ginger spice, charcuterie, citrus blossom, warm earth and raspberry licorice. There's energy to burn, a chalky tannin grip and pure, harmonious red and dark fruits, all pulling in the same direction; nothing sticks out, just flat-out great drinking. Drink to 2041.

Grenache (57%), Shiraz (33%) and Mataro (10%). Complex and layered with a core of sweet berry and cherry fruit, with some herbal hints and a touch of pepper. A classic Barossa red blend, done really well.

The 2024 The Steading is complex and full of flavor but not weight on the palate. This is a wine that shows ripe, dense fruit, with blood plum, pomegranate, blackberry and dark chocolate in profusion, alongside notes of licorice, clove and star anise. This is very good and has fine tannins. This is a blend of Grenache (50%), Shiraz (30%) and Mataro/Mourvedre (20%). There is sweet fruit on the mid-palate. Drink to 2034.
