A gentle fizz, low alcohol and that unmistakable Moscato perfume make this one of Piedmont’s great pleasures, and Vietti have been masters of the style for generations. Based in Castiglione Falletto, better known for Barolo, the family treat Moscato with the same care, sourcing fruit from prime Asti vineyards and focusing on purity and balance.
The 2024 is all about charm without tipping into excess. Orange blossom, jasmine and fresh grapes lead, followed by peach, apricot and a hint of citrus peel. It’s intensely aromatic, but clean and lifted rather than heavy.
In the mouth it’s lightly sparkling with a soft, creamy bead and a touch of natural sweetness that feels bright rather than cloying. Stone fruit and citrus glide through, balanced by just enough acidity to keep everything fresh. The finish is delicate, floral and gently refreshing.
This is made for relaxed, slightly indulgent moments. Fresh berries, peach tart or a citrus sorbet all work beautifully, but it’s just as good with something like almond biscotti or a light ricotta cheesecake. It also pairs surprisingly well with spicy dishes, think Thai chilli prawns or a fresh fruit driven salad with a bit of heat, where the sweetness cools things down.
Drink it young and well chilled, it’s all about freshness, perfume and easy enjoyment.
