A blend of 69/31% cabernet sauvignon/shiraz, both from '99 plantings. A light, bright salmon pink. Highly perfumed aromas of summer red fruits, tangerine and blood oranges together with light savoury and floral notes. The palate is dry, silky textured and lithe, finishing orange pithy and long. Lovely wine.

Yeringberg Rosé from the Yarra Valley is one of those quietly brilliant wines that doesn’t chase fashion but instead reflects the understated elegance of its makers. The de Pury family has been tending their historic Yarra Valley estate since 1863, making them one of the oldest names in Victorian wine. With David de Pury’s meticulous vineyard care and Sandra de Pury’s gentle hand in the cellar, Yeringberg’s wines are crafted in tiny quantities and are highly sought after for their authenticity and age-worthiness.

The rosé is usually made in a restrained Provençal style, using Cabernet family grapes from the estate vineyard. This gives it a pale, delicate hue but also a savoury, structured backbone that sets it apart from softer, fruit-driven rosés. The nose shows redcurrant, wild strawberry, blood orange zest and hints of crushed herbs. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing yet textural, with a fine mineral line running through to a dry finish. It is a wine that invites slow sipping rather than rushing, with the elegance that only old vines and careful farming can provide.

Food pairings lean towards the Mediterranean: grilled sardines with lemon and fennel, charcuterie, salade Niçoise or even a slow-roast chicken with thyme. It also shines alongside modern Australian summer fare like kingfish crudo, barbecued prawns, or grilled halloumi with watermelon.

With production limited, Yeringberg Rosé has become something of a cult insider’s wine, admired for its poise and its refusal to follow the commercial path of richer, sweeter rosés. Instead, it delivers a wine of purity, elegance and provenance, a reflection of both its historic vineyard and the de Pury family’s philosophy.
