Woodlands Wilyabrup Valley Rosé is a vibrant and refined expression of Margaret River’s maritime influence, produced by one of the region’s most respected family-owned wineries. Founded in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, Woodlands quickly gained a reputation for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blends. Today, under the guidance of their son Stuart Watson, the estate crafts wines that combine elegance with a strong sense of place. The rosé is sourced from premium estate and neighbouring vineyards in Wilyabrup, an area celebrated for its ancient gravelly soils and cooling sea breezes, which help retain freshness and aromatic intensity.
The wine is made from Cabernet Franc, picked in the cool of the morning to preserve delicate aromatics. Gentle pressing and cool fermentation in stainless steel maintain purity of fruit and a crisp, dry style. The colour is a pale salmon pink, hinting at its refreshing, mineral-driven character.
On the nose, bright aromas of wild strawberries, watermelon, and pink grapefruit are joined by subtle floral notes and a whisper of sea spray. The palate is lively and precise, with red berry and citrus flavours supported by crisp acidity and a fine, savoury texture. A long, dry finish makes it an ideal summer aperitif, though it also shines with food.
Perfect pairings include fresh prawns with lemon aioli, grilled whiting, or a salad of heirloom tomatoes and burrata with basil oil. It’s also excellent alongside lightly spiced Thai-style chicken or charcuterie. Best enjoyed within two to three years for maximum vibrancy and freshness.
