High in the cool reaches of Lenswood, BK Wines continues to explore the wilder, more textural side of Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir. Brendon and Kirstyn Keys have built a devoted following for wines that feel raw, expressive and deeply connected to site. Skin n Bones is very much a statement cuvée, leaning into whole bunch influence, gentle extraction and minimal intervention to highlight both structure and perfume. Lenswood’s elevated slopes and quartz and clay rich soils provide the tension and savoury detail that make this style so compelling.
Translucent ruby with a vibrant crimson edge, the aromatics feel immediately lifted and engaging. Wild strawberry, sour cherry and red plum mingle with rose stem, clove, forest floor and a faint smoky herbal note that speaks to the whole bunch inclusion. There is an almost feral charm here that draws you in. The palate is finely woven and energetic, juicy red fruits layered over earthy spice, dried herbs and a subtle mineral grip that gives the wine shape and drive. Tannins are gently chalky rather than plush, acidity bright and mouthwatering, carrying the finish long and savoury.
This is Pinot Noir for those who enjoy personality in the glass. A cool evening, vinyl spinning softly and something rustic simmering away feels like the perfect setting. It pairs beautifully with duck rillettes, mushroom and thyme tart, chargrilled quail or even wood fired pizza shared with friends. Drinking with great interest now yet capable of evolving over five to seven years as gamey complexity and dried flower notes emerge. A distinctive and thoughtful Lenswood Pinot that shows BK Wines at their most authentic.
