A well-rounded, tangy and vivid rosé showcasing red currants, frozen raspberries and mild spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with a mellow, well-rounded and poised character on the palate. Flavorful and juicy with plenty of energy on the finish. Drink now.

92 points James Suckling

There is something rather irresistible about a beautifully made Provençal rosé, especially when it has the sophistication to accompany a long lunch rather than simply start one. Rock Angel comes from Château d'Esclans, the celebrated Provence estate acquired by Sacha Lichine in 2006. Working with renowned winemaker Patrick Léon, Lichine helped transform the international reputation of rosé, creating wines with genuine depth, elegance and serious culinary appeal.

Sitting a step above the famous Whispering Angel, Rock Angel is crafted predominantly from Grenache with a smaller proportion of Rolle, the local name for Vermentino. Carefully selected fruit and partial fermentation and ageing in large oak barrels contribute extra texture and complexity without overwhelming the delicate fruit. The result is a rosé with the freshness of Provence and the structure of a fine white Burgundy.

Beautifully pale blush pink with delicate peach reflections. Wild strawberries, white peach and pink grapefruit mingle with orange blossom, fresh herbs and a whisper of almond. The palate is wonderfully silky, with succulent summer fruit, crisp citrus acidity and a subtle savoury richness. A gentle mineral character and delicate spice add interest to the long, dry finish.

Wonderful with tuna crudo dressed in yuzu and olive oil, grilled octopus with smoked paprika, or zucchini flowers filled with whipped ricotta and lemon. For a leisurely summer lunch, a platter of freshly cooked prawns, saffron aioli and crusty bread would be hard to resist.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2029. Delicious in its youth, although its structure and texture allow for a little further development.
