2025 Decades Chardonnay, Coal River Valley

The fruit was hand-picked, sorted and whole bunch pressed straight into a selection of large format seasoned French oak barrels. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, half of the barrels were allowed to go through malolactic conversion. The result is an elegant citrus driven wine with plenty of fruit and a lovely underlying acidity.

About this producer

Decades is the joint venture of well-regarded winemaker Steve Flamsteed (ex-Giant Steps and currently also winemaker for Victorian Eldridge Estate and Salo wineries) and Brad Rogers, his life-long friend and former chief brewer at Matilda Bay and co-founder of Stone & Wood.

They purchased a small established 2.5-hectare vineyard in the Tea Tree area of Tasmania’s southern Coal River Valley in 2022. Planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, they have since planted two additional blocks of mostly Pinot Nor with multiple clones and rootstocks, taking the total to 9.5 hectares.

Daily vineyard operations are managed by their neighbour Paul Laing of Mapleton Vineyard, who happens to be the former owner of the original Decades vineyard block.
