Light- to medium-bodied style with pretty aromas of macerated spicy red fruit and juicy flavours
Immediately recognisable Adelaide Hills style, the Deviation Road Pinot Noir opens with pretty aromas of macerated red plums, cherries and strawberries with lighter notes of cinnamon and amaro citrus. Light- to medium-bodied, the supple palate is juicy with a touch of tanginess and relaxed tannins.
This kind of Pinot is a pleasure on its own and pairs well with charcuterie, mushroom risotto or a beetroot salad with goat’s cheese. Highly enjoyable on release, it has the structure to age gracefully for a couple of years in the bottle if you prefer a more savoury wine.
More about this wine
From the warm and dry 2025 season, this estate grown Pinot is made from a mix of clones. The handpicked grapes were fermented in small open-top fermenters with a small inclusion of whole bunches for aromatic lift and tannin structure, and the wine matured for ten months in French oak barrels of which a modest 10% were new, adding texture and gentle spice without overwhelming the fruit.
About this producer
Deviation Road is the small Adelaide Hills winery of Hamish and Kate Laurie. Hamish is a fifth-generation local farmer well versed in all aspects of the wine industry while WA-born Kate brings with her a wealth of knowledge on all things sparkling after winemaking studies at the Lycée Viticole d’Avize in Champagne.
The excellent, traditionally bottle fermented Piccadilly Valley sparkling wines keep Deviation Road at the top of our shopping list, but their premium table wines are well worth a look at, and provide us a snapshot of the season well before the sparkling wines are ready to ship.
