2025 G.D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont

The Vajra family are among the great custodians of traditional Piedmontese winemaking, with Aldo Vajra and his family building G.D. Vajra into one of the Langhe's most admired estates. Known for wines of elegance, perfume and authenticity, the winery has earned a devoted following for capturing the spirit of Piedmont in every bottle.

Barbera has always held a special place at the family table, and this Barbera d'Alba showcases the variety at its vibrant and approachable best. Sourced from vineyards surrounding Barolo village and neighbouring communes, the wine reflects the freshness and generosity that have made Barbera one of Italy's most loved food wines.

The colour is a deep ruby purple with bright youthful highlights. Aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry leap from the glass alongside notes of violet, anise and sweet spice. The palate is juicy and energetic, layering ripe dark fruits over silky tannins and lively acidity. Hints of liquorice and dried herbs emerge with air, while the finish remains fresh, supple and wonderfully moreish.

A superb partner for pappardelle with slow cooked beef ragù, wood fired pizza, grilled sausages with fennel or roasted eggplant with tomato and basil. Drink over the next five to eight years while its vibrant fruit and freshness remain at their peak.
