Energetic, dense and savoury Pinot with meaty red fruit and fine warm spice
The 2025 Helen’s Hill Long Walk Pinot greets with bright and perfumed red fruit aromas dusted with fine, warm spices. Medium-bodied, the rather energetic palate offers good depths of savoury, dense and meaty layers of fruit wrapped in fine, velvety tannins.
Great value for money, this drinks well on release but is likely to develop well over several years. Enjoy with oloroso glazed roasted pork tenderloin dusted with pimentón and served with a white bean puree, or some grilled quail glazed with a soy, black vinegar and star anise reduction over a shiitake and barley risotto.
More about this wine
From the excellent, warm and dry 2025 vintage, the estate grown fruit for this 40/35/25 blend of the MV6, Pommard and Abel clones of Pinot came from the Long Walk block named for its 540-metre-long rows.
The fruit was lightly crushed into small open top fermenters and later matured for eleven months in French oak barriques of which 30% were new.
About this producer
Helen’s Hill has been a co-venture of the McIntosh and Nalder families since 1997, and is named after Helen Fraser, the former owner of the property located in the Coldstream area of Yarra Valley. All wines are made on-site from estate-grown fruit and guided to bottles by long-time winemaker Scott McCarthy. The total area planted to vines today is 40 hectares, with focus on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
