2025 Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley

Deep, bright red-purple in the glass; fresh and lifted raspberry to red cherry fragrance with a lovely touch of spice, clean and bright. Straightforward and youthful, with fine melting tannins, this is all about the fruit and is an uncomplicated and intensely varietal Yarra pinot. Drink to 2033.

The fruit for this wine was estate grown, hand-picked in the morning hours and de-stemmed with no crushing into stainless steel with small addition of sulphur. Some batches were left to cold soak for four to five days, whilst others started fermentation immediately with a combination of indigenous and cultured yeasts used across the different ferments. The wine was then pressed into oak barrels of which 30% were new, 30% of second use and the balance third and fourth use, The parcels were assessed and blend after an eleven-month maturation and bottled without fining or filtration.

Hoddles Creek Estate was established in 1997 by the D'Anna family on a property in the cooler, northern reaches of the Yarra Valley that they had held since 1960. The steep sloping, hand-tended 53-hectare vineyard sits along Gembrook Road and is planted to Pinots Gris and Noir, Chardonnay and small amounts Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard and winery is managed by a small team lead by winemaker Franco d’Anna.
