A Riesling that is true to style and region, sourced from around Leasingham, where there are, and have been over many years, some of the finest Rieslings in the country made. The aroma is a lemon pith, tart lime, and slightly minerally combination, and the palate shows a typical tension, and yet there is a deep intensity. The generous fruit flavours are tightened by the crisp acidity, which focuses and extends the palate. That crunchy, pebbly minerality on the finish is a feature.

Penna Lane Watervale Riesling is a pure expression of Clare Valley terroir, crafted by winemaker Peter Treloar, who has quietly built a reputation for producing wines of precision and clarity. Penna Lane’s vineyards sit high in the Watervale district, where the classic combination of terra rossa soils over limestone shapes fruit with vibrant acidity and distinctive minerality.
Treloar’s approach is hands-off and vineyard-driven, letting the site dictate the style rather than imposing too much in the winery. That philosophy comes through in this Riesling, which opens with an aromatic burst of lime blossom, citrus zest and crunchy green apple, followed by subtle jasmine and bath-powder minerality. The palate is tight, racy, and long, with a crystalline finish that speaks of both terroir and Treloar’s restrained winemaking touch.
It shines now with fresh seafood like oysters and grilled prawns, or with spicy dishes such as Thai green curry where its citrus lift cuts through heat and richness. With time in the cellar, the wine will broaden into honeyed, toasty characters, pairing beautifully with roast chicken or grilled fish. Expect at least a decade of graceful evolution.
