Fleshy, chalky and textural single vineyard wine from coastal cool-climate Drumborg offering excellent value
A bright green gold. With its aromas of apricot, white pear and acacia, this is both concentrated and beautifully fresh. The palate is ripe, fleshy and balanced. Another lovely example from Provenance to drink now and over the next two to three years. Drink to 2029.

Bosc pear, yellow apple and Meyer lemon lead the charge, followed by more subtle tones of quince jelly and lavosh crackers. The palate is slippery and textural with good intensity, mirroring the nose before a shot of lemon-laced acidity and a vein of chalky phenolics drive the finish to solid length. At $30 this represents serious value — a lovely expression leaning into flavour, texture and structure.

Punchy at soft at once. Pears, florals, sweet spices and ripe apples. Everything rushes upon to meet you and holds your attention for long enough. There’s plenty of flavour here and yet throughout it feels controlled.

Provenance was established in the mid-1990s around a simple idea of showcasing cool-climate vineyard sites across western Victoria. Owner and winemaker Sam Vogel works mostly with select vineyards across Henty, Ballarat and Geelong.
This is a single vineyard wine grown in the Doeven vineyard in the cool Drumborg part of the Henty region on the southwestern coast of Victoria. Planted in degraded volcanic buckshot topsoil over a permeable cracking red clay base, the site is significantly influenced by the proximity to the Great Southern Ocean and experiences cool, continental-like nights. While not certified, the vineyard has organic practices in place.
The hand-harvested fruit was chilled overnight before being whole bunch pressed to stainless steel, settled and racked back for a slow, cool fermentation. The wine was then left on yeast lees to build subtle texture and creaminess on the palate.
