Rising Wines takes its name from the vineyard, a gently elevated site near St Andrews in the Nillumbik Shire, on the northern fringe of the Yarra Valley. The vineyard was first planted in 1984 and the property has had several incarnations, most recently reborn as Rising under winemaker Anthony Fikkers. The vineyard sits at up to 245 metres above sea level, with a natural distribution of lighter loamy soils on the crests and heavier clay-rich soils on the lower slopes.
The 2025 vintage in the Yarra Valley was warmer and earlier than the previous season, with picking commencing earlier than the regional average. Lower yields produced concentrated, well-defined fruit with good natural acidity. Whole bunch inclusion adds a savoury, spiced complexity to the red fruit core, matured in French oak hogsheads with minimal new oak.
Light ruby, the nose is pure and fragrant with red cherry, raspberry and pressed flowers, dried herbs and a gentle spice thread. The palate is energetic and precise with silky tannins, fine acidity and a long, clean finish.
A wine of genuine Yarra Valley personality. Best enjoyed within a couple of years of vintage release. Try it with grilled salmon or a mushroom risotto.
