Bright varietal and regional aromas and flavours transport you to the cool, elevated slopes of Eden Valley. Blackberry and cassis pastilles greet on the nose, with freshly ground warm spice, a sprinkle of fresh bay leaf and subtle cedar notes. It all spills onto the vibrant palate, pure in its Cabernet character, powdery tannins included. A touch of Shiraz fills out the body.

Bring this bottle out for a relaxed Sunday family roast. It is sublime next to a slow-roasted leg of lamb rubbed with garlic, rosemary, and sea salt. The wine’s bright cassis fruit cuts right through rich meats, while the herbal bay leaf notes in the glass harmonising with the rosemary.

Keeping it casual? Uncork it alongside a wood-fired flatbread topped with grilled lamb kofta, sumac onions, and a swirl of garlic labneh. The wine's powdery tannins frame the charred, savory meat and the cool-climate acidity anchors the tangy labneh and zesty sumac.

More about this wine

Sons of Eden takes its name from the two partners, winemaker Corey Ryan and viticulturist Simon Cowham, who both learnt and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley.

The Pumpa is Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blended with a small supporting component of Shiraz. Named as a tribute to Len Pumpa, one of the pioneers in one of Australia’s most challenging viticultural regions.

Each Cabernet block was individually hand-harvested, the fruit destemmed and fermented in small one and two tonne open-fermenters. A combination of hand plunging and pumping-over cap management techniques were employed throughout the fermentation period. A short post ferment skin-maceration occurred for five days before the ferment was pressed off for a 12-month maturation in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads. The blended wine was naturally clarified and bottled without finings or filtration.
