A classy, velvety Pinot Noir blending estate grown fruit from Derwent and Huon River Valleys
Aptly names, this beautiful Pinot has spring in its steps, opening with a lively, pronounced and floral red fruit aromas and a dusting of warm spice and dried bush herbs. Classy and seamless, the medium-bodied palate offers layers of velvety red fruit, spice and gamey meats.
A lot of pleasure in a glass, this would sit well with a Moroccan duck pastilla, or simple pan-seared pork chops with crispy sage and buttery smashed potatoes.
Drink on release or cellar for a few more years for a more nuanced bottle.
More about this wine
A blend of the two Lubiana vineyards in Derwent and Huon River valleys, with the majority stemming from the former. The hand-picked fruit for this wine was mostly de-stemmed, with a small inclusion of whole bunches in the ferment that started with indigenous yeasts in a mixture of open and closed fermenters. Basket pressed after three weeks, the wine then matured in seasoned French oak barriques and was bottled early-2026 with minimal fining and a light touch of sulphur.
About this producer
Steve and Monique Lubiana laid the foundation of Stefano Lubiana Wines in 1990. Located in Tasmania’s southern Derwent Valley, their now 25-hectare Granton vineyard was the first in Tasmania to be certified biodynamic. The family also farms a 10-hectare Cradoc site acquired in 2016 in the neighbouring Huon River Valley.
A fifth-generation winemaker born to an Italian migrant family from Friuli, Steve continues to oversee all aspects of viticulture and winemaking, and son Marco has worked alongside him in aspects of the business.
While they have a strong focus on premium sparkling wines, the quality of the still Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines is excellent and consistent, and the family loves to experiment and explore with other varieties and styles.
